In Germany, the Standing Committee on Vaccination (STIKO) develops recommendations on vaccinations and other measures of specific prophylaxis against communicable diseases. Myths, wrong assumptions, and conspiracy theories are able to disturb the implementation of vaccination recommendations. Evidence and transparency of recommendations are needed to rationalize the discussion.In November 2011, STIKO adopted a new standard operating procedure (SOP) for the development of evidence-based vaccination recommendations. Following guidance provided by the SOP, a number of new vaccination recommendations have been developed since 2011. Furthermore, existing recommendations were revised or extended accordingly. This article provides an overview on the methodology of the SOP, describes experiences made so far, and characterizes future challenges.

In Deutschland gibt die Ständige Impfkommission (STIKO) Empfehlungen zur Durchführung von Schutzimpfungen und zur Durchführung anderer Maßnahmen der spezifischen Prophylaxe übertragbarer Krankheiten. Die Umsetzung dieser Empfehlungen wird durch Mythen und Mutmaßungen bis hin zu Verschwörungstheorien in der öffentlichen Diskussion zu Impfungen gefährdet. Evidenz und Transparenz der Empfehlungen können die Diskussion versachlichen.Im November 2011 wurde eine neue STIKO-Standardvorgehensweise (Standard Operating Procedure [SOP]) für die Entwicklung evidenzbasierter Impfempfehlungen verabschiedet. Anhand der Vorgaben der SOP werden seit 2011 nicht nur neue Impfempfehlungen erarbeitet, sondern auch bereits bestehende Empfehlungen aktualisiert bzw. erweitert. Der Artikel gibt einen Überblick über die Methodik der SOP, beschreibt bisherige Erfahrungen in ihrer Anwendung und gibt einen Ausblick auf künftige Herausforderungen.
