An analysis of the central connections of the facial nerve in the mallard using HRP histochemistry
Abstract
HRP was applied to the facial nerve in the mallard. Afferent connections were compared to a previous degeneration study. Two small projections to the principal sensory trigeminal nucleus and n. interpolaris were present which were not found before. Motor nuclei were identified by injecting HRP into several facialis innervated muscles.
