Plasma angiopoietin 1 (Ang-1) and Ang-1/Ang-2 concentrations are higher in adults with cystic fibrosis (CF) than in healthy adults. Plasma was collected in adults with CF (n = 20) during times of relative wellness and in age-, sex- and ethnicity-matched control subjects (n = 20). Five plasma markers of endothelial function were measured: Ang-1, Ang-2, soluble vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (sVCAM-1), von Willebrand factor (vWF), and soluble intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (sICAM-1). For each biomarker, comparisons were made with a Mann-Whitney test. Significance was based on a P < 0.01 based on Bonferroni correction for multiple hypotheses. Horizontal lines depict the median values and first and third quartile results for the distribution of plasma biomarkers between healthy adults and adults with CF. ***P < 0.001.
