Meta‐analysis of survival among subjects receiving prednisolone or placebo grouped according to the inclusion criteria used in the clinical trial. Prednisolone treatment was associated with improved survival in trials that enrolled subjects with Maddrey's discriminant function >31 or hepatic encephalopathy, but not in clinical trials that used other inclusion criteria nor when all trials were combined.
