Abstract

Mitochondrial genomes are present in hundreds of copies per cell. Recent work now reports the levels of inheritance of mtDNA heteroplasmy in humans and also explores mechanisms that restrict the inheritance of deleterious mtDNA variants in the Drosophila female germline.
