Figure 1.
Figure 1.
Panel A: Segmented trends over calendar time for quarterly incidence rates of elective and urgent/emergent surgery for diverticulitis per 100,000 adults ≥20 years old in the United States, 2000-2016. Trend segments (lines) and pointwise quarterly rates (circles) are shown separately for each surgery type (elective or urgent/emergent). Solid circles with lines represent elective surgery, and open circles with dashed lines represent urgent/emergent surgery. Panels B and C: Age-stratified segmented trends over calendar time for quarterly incidence rates of elective (B) and urgent/emergent surgery (C) for diverticulitis per 100,000 adults ≥20 years old in the United States, 2000-2016. Trend segments (lines) and pointwise quarterly rates (circles) are shown separately for each age group (20-49, 50-64, 65-79, ≥80 years) in each panel. Trend estimates are listed for each segment for the change in rate (per 100,000 adults) per year of calendar time; trends are adjusted for seasonality using a transformed cosine periodic function and account for serial error autocorrelation using autoregressive model parameters. The guideline change “interruption” in July 2006 is indicated by the solid vertical line.
