Figure.. The proposed contribution of KV1.5 and KV1.3 channels to vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) proliferation.
Left: Kv1.5 channel is a myocardin-regulated, VSMC contractile marker and inhibits VSMC proliferation by hampering KV1.3-induced proliferative signaling. Right: upon stimulation of growth factors in combination with vascular injury or disease, the myocardin-dependent down-regulation of KV1.5 reveals KV1.3 as the main KV1 channels, which consequently leads to the activation of proliferation pathways.
