Abstract

This study used data on mass shootings to examine the proximity of adult trauma centers, pediatric trauma centers, and non–trauma center hospitals to such events.

The sizes of the bubbles reflect distances to the closest hospital, the colors of the bubbles reflect the type of hospital closest to the event, and the shading of the state reflects population density (with darker colors indicating greater density). B, Distance from event to the closest nontrauma center (NTC), adult trauma center (ATC), and pediatric trauma center (PTC). The sizes reflect the number of individuals injured. Twenty-three pediatric trauma centers were at distances greater than 100 miles.
