[Advice for a patient with a cold]
Abstract
A cold, which can at first appear benign, must not be disregarded during a consultation at the community pharmacy as it can be incapacitating for the patient. Rhinitis of a viral origin is said to be acute, but it can also be the result of an allergy or caused by irritating agents. The first advice to give concerns hygiene. Anodynes can be recommended to relieve fever, as well as antihistamines or decongestants taken orally, and a local treatment to unblock the airways. Treatments taken internally help to treat all the symptoms. Finally, some aromatherapy and homeopathic remedies can be recommended.
Le rhume, qui peut sembler bénin au premier abord, ne doit pas être négligé lors d’une visite à l’officine car il peut être très handicapant pour le patient. Une rhinite d’origine virale est dite aiguë, mais elle peut également être d’origine allergique ou occasionnée par des agents irritants. Les premiers conseils à donner sont d’ordre hygiénique. Des antalgiques peuvent être conseillés pour soulager la fièvre, ainsi que des antihistaminiques ou des décongestionnants par voie orale, et un traitement local pour dégager les voies respiratoires. Des traitements par voie générale permettent de traiter l’ensemble des symptômes. Enfin, certaines spécialités utilisées en aromathérapie et en homéopathie peuvent être proposées.
