Sulindac is classified as a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), exhibiting anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. Similar to other NSAIDs, sulindac is primarily utilized for the treatment of conditions characterized by acute or chronic inflammation. However, according to the manufacturer, its indications are broad. The medication is prescribed for the acute management of musculoskeletal shoulder pain, acute gouty arthritis, osteoarthritis resulting from wear and tear, and inflammatory arthritic conditions, including both rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylarthritis. Healthcare providers recommend administering the lowest effective dose tailored to each patient's needs for the initial treatment and the shortest duration possible. This activity provides an overview of the indications, contraindications, mechanism of action, adverse events, and essential components of sulindac therapy in clinical practice. This activity enables healthcare professionals to tailor treatment plans, optimize dosage regimens, and minimize adverse reactions by enhancing their competence in sulindac pharmacology.
