In critically ill COVID-19 patients with pneumonia, pulmonary thromboembolism may be considered.

In critically ill COVID-19 patients, contrast-enhanced computed tomography of the chest is mandatory to assess parenchymal patterns and to diagnose pulmonary thromboembolism.
