Abstract

Purpose: To investigate the value of internal fixation in management of mandibular comminuted fracture with mini-titanium plate.

Methods: Twenty-one patients with mandibular comminuted fracture treated in Stomatology Hospital of Shenyang from March 2017 to February 2018 were enrolled, the patients received internal fixation with mini-titanium plate. The lower mandibular margin, upper mandibular margin and middle outer cortex were fixed respectively. The postoperative fracture healing and adverse reactions were recorded and analyzed.

Results: All patients achieved bone healing within 3 months after surgery, with an average duration of (1.53±0.36) months. Among 21 patients, six patients (28.57%) had minimal occlusion, and 1 patient (4.76%) had local infection. No microtitanium plate fracture, persistent pain, limited mouth opening, tooth injury, facial nerve injury or nonunion were found.

Conclusions: Internal fixation with mini-titanium for comminuted mandibular fracture patients without bone defects has the advantages of good postoperative fracture healing, short healing time and few adverse reactions.
