Flow chart of study. A total of 75 of 84 reported cases were analyzed in detail, of which 52 children were born and dead between January 1, 2000 and December 31, 2015 who constituted the open cohort for death incidence rate calculation. The National Death Registry reported during the same period 81 pediatric death certificates with sickle cell disease as principal or associated cause of death.
