It is imperative that vaccine development and deployment include pregnant individuals because:

They are at equal, if not greater, risk of severe COVID-19 illness than nonpregnant patients.

Vertical transmission of SARS-CoV-2 to the fetus has been documented.

Placental injury from SARS-CoV-2 may lead to stillbirth and poor neonatal outcome.
