National Health Interview Surveys for health care policy

C Kars-Marshall et al. Soc Sci Med. 1988.

Abstract

Eleven National Health Interview Surveys (NHIS), from nine countries are reviewed to describe their objectives, topics and methods. The NHIS-data are evaluated in terms of their validity and reliability as well as their usefulness for health care policy decisions. With some modifications in design and methods, NHISs have potential for collecting recent and policy-relevant data. Suggestions are offered to improve the usefulness of NHIS-data for health care policy.
