Abstract

PIP: Literature on contraceptives suitable for adolescents is reviewed. Synthetic contraceptive steroids are the best of the oral contraceptives in terms of safety and acceptability. After having used traditional methods such as condoms and spermicidal preparations, adolescents should be told about minipills or low-dose sequentials, as long as there are no oligomenorrheic cyclic disturbances. If IUD insertion is called for, the Copper T or Gravigard 1 should be used.
