The mortality of hospital-acquired bloodstream infections: need for a new vital statistic?
Abstract
Available data on both crude mortality and attributable mortality of hospital-acquired bloodstream infections suggest that such infections represent an important cause of death in the US. The use of 95% confidence limits for attributable mortality and current national vital statistics data for septicaemia corroborate the general hypothesis.
