Doxycycline targets mitoribosomes and introduces mild stress to mitochondria to increase disease tolerance for sepsis. Doxycycline blocks aminoacyl-tRNA (aa-tRNA) to the A site of the mitoribosome to inhibit the translation of mitochondria-encoded genes. Mild perturbation of mitochondria was induced by inhibition of mitochondrial protein synthesis and presented as reduced activity of the electron transport chains (ETC). ETC perturbation can trigger compensatory cytoprotective responses, such as decreased lipid accumulation
