Abstract

PIP: 156 women, 31-55 years of age, were treated for menopausal difficulties with 2 hormonal preparations. Menonorm and Medovan were administered in a Double-blind, double dummy study during 3 cycles to determine if there were a difference in the effectiveness of the 2 preparations. A statistical analysis was made on the results from 107 of the women who took part in the study; no significant difference was found between the effectiveness of the 2 preparations or the patients's subjective evaluation of them. Improvement in the incidence of heat flashes was recorded in 76%-86% of the material. Psychological problems improved in 47%-56% of those observed. The median cycle length was 28.2 days for both preparations. 1 woman developed a reversible hypertension during Medovan use. Women using Menonorm showed a tendency toward weight gain, while those using Medovan showed a tendency toward weight loss. Discontinuation rate during the first 2 months of use were significantly higher among women who had hormone treatments before (P .05).
