The Zhongshan Angle Closure Prevention (ZAP) trial showed a low incidence rate of angle closure disease in angle closure suspects at 6 years and that prophylactic peripheral iridotomy showed a modest effect in preventing angle closure disease. Prophylactic peripheral iridotomy should be reserved for those at highest risk of primary angle closure glaucoma.
