Underrepresentation is more acute in plant sciences than in other scientific fields. Data on PhD recipients were extracted from the Special Report NSF 19-301 (https://ncses.nsf.gov/pubs/nsf19301/). The plant sciences field corresponds to the aggregate of the following categories: agronomy, horticulture science, plant breeding, plant pathology, plant sciences-other, botany, plant pathology, plant physiology, forest biology, forest management, wood science, forestry sciences-other, and plant genetics.
