The HBV life cycle is shown here. The ASO targets all transcripts of the HBV genome (HBx (x), PreS2/S, PreS1, Precore, pgRNA) and aims to reduce all viral antigen production. The reduction in viral antigens may also lead to restoration of the endogenous anti-HBV immune response. NTCP, sodium taurocholate co-transporter; ER, endoplasmic reticulum; MVB, multivesicular body; cccDNA, covalently closed circular DNA.
