Monitoring the function of essential organ systems is a hallmark of critical care. In combination with the medical history, physical examination and selective diagnostic tests. In the future clinical decision support systems based on artificial intelligence might support intensivists in the analysis of monitoring data in terms of individual prognosis assessment and choice of therapy.
