The use of frozen cadaveric allografts in the management of patients with bone tumors of the extremities
Abstract
Since 1971, 314 frozen osteoarticular and intercalary cadaveric allografts have been implanted primarily in the management of patients with aggressive or malignant tumors of bone. The procedure, although arduous and sometimes resulting in complications, was successful in preserving the limb and restoring function to the part in over 70 per cent of the patients. Key to the system is the maintenance of a high-quality procurement and banking program.
