Neurologic disease caused by Haemophilus somnus
Abstract
Haemophilus somnus is an important cause of neurologic disease in young cattle. Controversy exists over the taxonomic classification of this organism, but the name has persisted. Although the clinical signs and postmortem findings have been well described, the epidemiology and pathogenesis are poorly understood. With early detection, the disease can be successfully treated with antimicrobial therapy. Prevention of the disease may be possible with commercial bacterins.
