Adolescents and chronic illness

D M Siegel. JAMA. .

Abstract

An epidemiologic background of chronic illness in children in the United States is presented, including prevalence data for 21 major chronic conditions. Normal adolescent development is reviewed, and the impact of chronic disease on this development is discussed. Finally, access to care for these patients and participation by primary providers are examined.
