Longitudinal changes in sweet preferences in humans

Longitudinal changes in sweet preferences in humans

J A Desor et al. Physiol Behav. 1987.

Abstract

Preferences for the taste of sucrose were measured in 44 humans when they were 11-15 years of age and again in the same individuals 9-10 years later when they were 19-25 years of age. Preferred level of sweet decreased over the intervening years. This suggests that in humans, as in rats, heightened preferences for sweet observed in the young decline with age.
