Monthly JAA submissions for 2020 (red line) are compared to those for 2016 to 2019 (blue line). The 2016–2019 monthly submission average is shown as a black horizontal line. Deviations from the four-year monthly average prior to the onset of COVID-19 are shown. For the 2016–2019 period, the submission pattern is explicable in light of archaeological teaching responsibilities and fieldwork opportunities. Submissions during 2020 from April onward were 30% higher than normal, and the number of papers varied considerably from one month to the next.
