We report the case of a 66-year-old female patient with rheumatoid arthritis and bilateral upper eyelid abscess under treatment with etanercept. Because bilateral upper lid abscesses due to a systemic cause are rare and cases of abscess formation under treatment with etanercept have been described in the literature, we discuss a possible connection between the bilateral upper lid abscess and the existing immunosuppressive medication.

Wir präsentieren den Fall einer 66-jährigen Patientin, bei der sich unter Etanercept-Therapie bei rheumatoider Arthritis eine bilaterale Oberlidschwellung mit Abszedierung zeigte. Da das simultane und bilaterale Auftreten von Oberlidabszessen mit systemischer Ursache sehr selten ist und sich in der Literatur Fälle einer Abszedierung unter Etanercept-Therapie finden, diskutieren wir eine mögliche Verbindung zwischen der bilateralen Oberlidabszedierung und der bestehenden immunsuppressiven Therapie.
