Although not directly attributable to climate change, the plight of Rohingya refugees, seen here building makeshift shelters in Bangladesh in 2017, illustrates how climate-induced human population displacements could affect biodiversity. When local residents won’t accept influxes of “foreigners” into their communities, any remaining natural areas in the vicinity could be targeted for land conversion and development to support these displaced persons.
