Figures

Figure 1.
Figure 1.
The modified Fecobionics camera probe. Upper: The device was constructed with a 20mm-long rigid head at the front and an 80 mm-long bendable core (12.5 mm-wide) with embedded electronics and a bag mounted (not shown in the figure). The camera was placed in a groove at the rigid head. This avoided that the camera touched the organ wall and allowed visualization of the anorectal junction from the rectal side within the focal range. The default effective pixels were 0.69M with 30 fps frame rate. It has 110 degrees full size field view and 5–50mm/10–80mm Depth of Field (DoF). The front pressure sensor was mowed to a lateral position at the front side to accommodate the camera. MPU is motion processor unit and MCU is the microcontroller unit. Lower: The entire device (left), the rigid front part with the camera during assembly (mid), and testing with the camera visualizing the palm of the hand (right).
Figure 2.
Figure 2.
Anorectum and anal canal viewed from rectum with high-resolution miniature video camera. The images show the initial (left) and later stage (right) of an anal squeeze, push and evacuation. Upper: Anal sphincter squeeze with tightly closed anal canal. Middle: Push procedure (increased abdominal pressures and attempt to relax the anal sphincter) with slightly opened anal canal during the later stage of the push procedure. Air passageways to outside the anus are visible (red arrows). Lower. Partial open anal canal during initial defecation and further opening at the later stage of evacuation. A highly irregular folding pattern (buckling of the mucosa) is visible. The Black arrows: Tube for filling and wires.
