Figures

Figure 1.
Figure 1.
Computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan images of the thoracic spine. (a) Sagittal reconstructed CT scan showing endplate erosion at the T1/2 disk. (b) T2-weighted sagittal MR image showing bone edema in the T1-2 vertebrae and fluid accumulation in the T1/2 disk. (c) T2-weighted axial MRI showing an iso-low signal intensity mass representing an epidural abscess in the thoracic spinal canal at T1/2. (d) Colonies of E.tarda isolated from the culture on bromothymol blue medium.
Figure 2.
Figure 2.
Summary of the patient’s clinical course. CT-guided drainage was performed on day 1. The patient experienced paralysis in the lower extremities on day 12, and posterior spinal fusion was performed on day 38. His condition improved, and he was transferred to the rehabilitation hospital on day 62. PIPC/TAZ: Piperacillin/tazobactam, CEZ: Cefazolin, MEPM: Meropenem, CTRX: Ceftriaxone, LVFX: Levofloxacin, CT: Computed tomography, CRP: C-reactive protein, WBC, White blood cell
Figure 3.
Figure 3.
Postadmission images of the thoracic spine. (a) Sagittal magnetic resonance imaging scan after the appearance of paralysis showing progressed epidural abscess and spinal cord compression at the level of T1-2. (b) Anteroposterior thoracic spine view of the postoperative radiograph showing spinal instrumentation applied at C7-T3 levels. (c) Sagittal computed tomography scan 6 months postoperatively showing solid bony fusion of T1-2.
