Electrical impedance tomography–based phenotypes of ventilation patterns: gravitational approach versus morphofunctional approach. All patients classified as overdistension and focal-bilateral were phenotypes 3 and 1, respectively. Phenotype 1, a predominance of ventral ventilation, was included in 35% of the nonfocal phenotype, defined as a homogeneous distribution of ventilation among lung quadrants (morphofunctional approach). Phenotype 2, achieving the lowest postoperative pulmonary complications score, was included in 39% of the focal-unilateral phenotype, defined as reduced unilateral dorsal ventilation (morphofunctional approach). DFV = dorsal fraction of ventilation.
