Focused ultrasound stimulation of the spleen (sFUS) is a promising therapeutic approach to attenuate experimental PH. Retrospective meta-analysis of human clinical studies indicates that splenectomy is associated with a higher risk of PAH development. FUS application alleviates the severity of experimental PH in the SuHx-induced rat model, as shown by decreased RVSP, improved RV function, and PA remodeling, and alters the immune response in the spleen and lung. Preemptive splenic nerve denervation worsens the SuHx induced PH in rats and abolishes the sFUS therapeutic effect.
