Degradation of heparan sulfate or hyaluronan worsens Streptococcus pneumoniae lung infection. (A) Visual summary of approach used by Goekeri and colleagues (3). Briefly, mice were inoculated with S. pneumoniae or PBS in combination with heparinise or hyaluronidase and monitored for 48 hours.
