ANTI-racism approach to basic research. Griffith previously reported the ABC model—“adapt to the context, build [community] capacity, change policy, and create well-being”—for antiracism in clinical and epidemiologic research. Expanding on this model, researchers planning studies into racial disparities should first assess their plan using the “ANTI” rubric: make an a priori prediction of how much of their phenotype of interest is environmental versus genetic; assess their populations using a negative control that directly addresses (rather than models) population stratification; clearly articulate how study results will translate to better health outcomes; and integrate environmental and dietary covariates into their analyses.
