Differential diagnosis of weakness--a common geriatric symptom
Abstract
Weakness can result from diuretics causing azotemia and hypokalemia, whereas psychotropic drugs are often implicated as a cause of impaired emotional and physical drive. Peripheral neuropathy may lead to weakness of limbs. In the elderly, common causes include diabetes mellitus and alcoholism.
