Skin-Tightening Devices (Radiofrequency) in Mixed-Race Patients
Abstract
Mixed-race patients seeking noninvasive esthetic procedures with minimal to no downtime are increasing, the most common issue in this group of patients when using medical technologies is post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation. Radiofrequency (RF) is an energy that is safe for treating all skin types because it does not interact target chromophore, its mechanism of action is the production of heat by shooting electrons into tissue and the interaction with that tissue's impedance or resistance is what produces the heat, and the heat induces collagen remodeling and collagenesis, so skin color, melanin, and hemoglobin do not play any role in RF-based treatments.
