The worn knee
Abstract
Early osteoarthritis in patients between 35 and 65 years of age is mostly observed following previous cartilage, meniscus, and bone or ligament injuries. The expectations individuals have regarding their physical abilities have increased over the past few decades. Patients who despite relevant non-surgical treatment still experience knee pain are often a challenge for primary care. The purpose of this review is to provide non-orthopaedic surgical colleagues with an overview of the surgical assessment and treatment for young patients (less-than 65 years) with early signs of osteoarthritis of the knee.
