Aging and frailty are associated with inflammatory endotypic shifts in patients with chronic rhinosinusitis

Mason R Krysinski et al. Int Forum Allergy Rhinol. 2025 Mar.

Abstract

Frailty and aging are associated with a shift toward non-type 2 inflammation in chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS). Frailty-related shifts in sinonasal inflammatory mediators may be linked to biological senescence. Understanding the role of aging and frailty in CRS may have important treatment implications.

Keywords: aging; chronic rhinosinusitis; cytokine; endotype; frailty; immunosenescence.
