Recognizing anemia and thrombpenia in acute and emergency medicine is easy. Acute (microangiopathic hemolytic) anemia and thrombopenia can be a sign of thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA). TMA syndromes are potentially life-threatening diseases. Diagnosing a TMA syndrome, causal differentiation and treatment require specialist knowledge that is not always available in acute and emergency medicine. Many differential diagnoses and examinations are usually necessary to make a correct diagnosis. Therefore, a standardized diagnostic algorithm is helpful for early diagnosis and treatment initiation.

Das Erkennen einer Anämie und Thrombopenie in der Akut- und Notfallmedizin ist einfach. Eine akute (mikroangiopathische hämolytische) Anämie und Thrombopenie können Ausdruck einer thrombotischen Mikroangiopathie (TMA) sein. Die Gruppe der TMA-Syndrome stellt potenziell lebensbedrohliche Erkrankungen dar. Die Diagnose eines TMA-Syndroms, die kausale Differenzierung und die Therapie erfordern Spezialwissen, das in der Akut- und Notfallmedizin nicht immer vorhanden ist. Eine Vielzahl von Differenzialdiagnosen und Untersuchungen erschwert die korrekte Diagnosestellung. Daher ist ein standardisierter diagnostischer Algorithmus sinnvoll, um die Diagnose frühzeitig zu stellen und die Therapie einzuleiten.
