Abstract

The address was delivered by Robert A. Hiatt, MD, PhD at the Annual Meeting of the American College of Epidemiology in Columbus, Ohio on September 11, 2024. Dr. Hiatt is Professor and past Chair of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of California San Franscisco (UCSF) as well as Associate Director of Population Sciences for the Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center. He is a leader in the field of cancer epidemiology, demonstrating a commitment to tackling health inequities and directing large-scale, multi-component research projects with a focus on breast cancer, environmental health research, implementation science, and global health science. Dr. Hiatt is also a strong proponent for mentoring the next generation of epidemiologists, with a focus on the conduct and training of transdisciplinary, team, and translational scientists. Dr. Hiatt is past president of the American College of Epidemiology and the American Society of Preventive Oncology. He was also the first deputy director of the National Cancer Institute's Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences from 1998 to 2003. Currently, he is Principal Investigator of the All of Us National Precision Medicine Initiative and director of the San Francisco Cancer Initiative (SF CAN).
