Abstract

The pharmacokinetics of a slow-release formulation of nifedipine were studied following oral administration of a single 20 mg tablet in nine young male volunteers. Blood samples were collected and nifedipine concentrations analysed by gas liquid chromatography. Compared to conventional nifedipine, there was a delay in peak concentrations and a much smaller range of peak plasma levels. The smaller interindividual variability of plasma drug levels may be useful in the treatment of hypertension.
