Abstract

Bronchial aspergilloma, an uncommon subtype of pulmonary aspergilloma, likely developed in the main bronchus due to airflow stagnation and dryness following lobectomy. Detailed imaging and bronchoscopy provided valuable diagnostic insights, underscoring the importance of considering fungal infections in surgically altered airways.

Keywords: aspergilloma; aspergillus flavus; bronchoscopy.

Chest computed tomography (CT) demonstrated a 50‐mm mass within the lumen of the right main bronchus (A). Bronchoscopic examination identified a greenish‐yellow lesion occupying the right main bronchial lumen. Its surface was uneven and had a raised texture (B, C), Histopathological examination demonstrated a Y‐branched, septate mycelial structure with positive stain (D; ×500, Grocott's methenamine silver stain). CT demonstrated that the mass had disappeared from the right main bronchus (E).
