Association between Systolic Blood Pressure and CVD-cause Mortality among Adults Aged 80 or Older with Anti-hypertensive Medication Use from NHANES 1988 to 2014 in the U.S. Figure illustrates the association between systolic blood pressure and CVD-cause mortality among a nationally representative sample of older adults with anti-hypertensive medication use. (A) Hazard Ratios (HR) and 95% Confidence Intervals (CI) are plotted across a range of blood pressure values in Cox models with penalized spline. The dashed lines at 97.8 mmHg and 130.8 mmHg represent the range where the HR, with its 95% confidence interval, is below 1.0. In contrast, the SBP range from 145.0 to 171.8 mmHg represents the period where the HR, with its 95% confidence interval, is above 1.0. (B) Kaplan–Meier survival analysis stratified by low (<130 mm Hg), middle (130–160 mm Hg), and high (>160 mm Hg) systolic blood pressure levels in the Cox proportional hazards model. All analysis adjusted for sex, ethnicity, education level, smoking status, anti-diabetic drug, anti-lipid drug, self-reported of heart failure, stroke, and myocardial infarction.
