Conflict of interest statement
All coauthors declare that their countries receive PEPFAR funding towards ending AIDS, saving the lives of over 26 million (the majority of whom live in Africa), and supporting over eight million orphaned and vulnerable children. Other competing interests include the funding that their organisations receive from PEPFAR or The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (BP, JHKB, MSC, VSC, GM, and NN). MS served as Executive Director for UNAIDS, which received PEPFAR funding, until 2019; BP is head of the Board of Directors for Coptic Hospital (Nairobi) which receives PEPFAR funding; JHKB is Chair of the Country Coordinating Mechanism for The Global Fund, which receives PEPFAR funding; MSC works with Elizabeth Glaser AIDS Foundation and the International Organization of Women Living with HIV, which receive PEPFAR funding; VSC works with Zimbabwe Association of Church-Related Hospitals, which receives PEPFAR funding; GM works with Circle of Hope Zambia, which receives PEPFAR funding; NN works for Africa Christian Health Associations Platform, which receives PEPFAR funding; and EM works with St Paul's University, which previously received some PEPFAR funding.
