[Peri-partum symphysiolysis]
Abstract
Peri-partum symphysiolysis (PPS) is a rare but severe complication of vaginal delivery. The incidence of PPS in Denmark, with approximately 60,000 births per year, was estimated to be 0.5. This case report presents a 29-year-old, healthy female who suffered from symphysiolysis with diastasis of 25 mm after vaginal birth. The symphysiolysis was surgically stabilized with intern fixations because of the extent of the diastasis. The importance of multidisciplinary teamwork, fast and precise diagnostics, and individual treatment is highlighted in this case report.
