In the PVH, Sim1 neurons coexpressing TH promote food intake and obesity, unlike other PVH-Sim1 neurons that induce satiety. These orexigenic PVH-TH neurons are excited by both AgRP and POMC neurons of the arcuate nucleus (ARC), likely at different phases of food consummatory behavior. Among several projection targets of PVH-TH neurons, dopamine release in the LHb at least in part accounts for the increase in food intake through activation of D2 receptors (D2R).
