Primary spontaneous colporrhexis in a primigravida
Abstract
Primary spontaneous colporrhexis is a rare condition but is an important differential of haemodynamic instability after an uneventful golden hour postnatally. We report such a case in a primipara who had presented in active labour. She had progressed well and delivered by normal vaginal delivery. About 5 h thereafter, she developed tachycardia and hypotension. The vaginal examination was suggestive of colporrhexis. At emergency laparotomy, a posterior uterine rent was identified and repaired. Timely identification is crucial and transfer where a laparotomy can be immediately performed may be life-saving.
