Self-assembled nanoparticles encapsulating zoledronic acid restores chemo-immune-sensitivity in vivo. U-2OS 3D cells (1 × 106) were injected subcutaneously in Hu-CD34+ mice. When the tumor reached the volume of 50 mm3, animals (n = 8/group) were randomized and treated (on day 3, 9, and 15 after randomization) as it follows: 1) Vehicle group, treated with 0.1 ml saline solution intravenously (i.v.); 2) doxorubicin (Dox) group, treated with 5 mg/kg doxorubicin i.v.; 3) NZ group, treated with 20 μg/mice zoledronic acid i.v.; 4) NZ + Dox group, treated with 20 μg/mice zoledronic acid as NZ and 5 mg/kg doxorubicin i.v.
